So, I've had this project knitted for a couple of months, now. I love to knit stuff. And I love the way a felted fabric forms, all thick and cushy. Yum.
But, I am absolutely terrified of starting the felting process. It goes against everything I've ever been taught, about how one takes care of natural fibres. Wool is sacred. Wool must never be agitated. Bad things will happen. Knitting needles will be broken asunder. Plagues of moths will decimate the land. There will be FELTING.
Gasp!
I know. It's irrational. And really, really counterproductive. So.
I took a big, deep breath, bit my lip, squeezed my eyes shut, and tossed a new hat into the washing machine with hot water, a couple of towels and a little Soak. (I love that stuff). After pulling the sorry looking, sodden wad of wool out of the washer for the twelfth time in fifteen minutes, I got this:
That, right there, is three quarters of a ball of Cascade 220, knitted on 5mm needles. Takes no time at all to knit and only two months to felt. Just in time for the snow to fly. Good thing I didn't start in November.
Ain't it just gorgeous?
Reminds me of the Roarin' Twenties.
And the pattern?
It's mine.
Joy.
