Remember this?
At the time, I was being all secret-like, because the 3rd Annual Soper Creek Yarn Contest was under way. The public didn't know which entry was knitted by who, and the public were doing the voting. I thought it was only fair to keep everyone in the dark. Even if it only prevented the three of you that read this, from knowing which project was mine.
Well. The competition is over. Congrats to Suzanne, Katherine and Nancy! Beautiful work, all round!
And this is what I was being so mysterious about.
The rules stipulated that we had to incorporate four colours of Cascade 220 (two shades of grey, white, and your choice of blue, yellow, green or purple -- provided as a kit). It took me a while to visualize something, and then it took some research, once I finally had my idea.
I started with a modification of Sarah Bradbury's Shell Counterpane from 1860, and produced the first attempt:
Did you know that when you full a knitted item, it will shrink about twenty percent, vertically, and about ten percent, horizontally. I did. So I was utterly confounded, when my modular, multidirectional finished knit shrank about fifteen percent in all directions. Surprise!
So I tried again. This time the dimensions are better, but the colour balance was off.
Ah, the glamourous life of a designer...
And then, everything came together.
Size, colour combination and general feltiness.
Whadaya think? Should I write the instructions down?
Nope - no instructions necessary, I think you should just make each of your followers one of their own?? Yes?? Nice job cuz!!
