I had just finished up with a student at the yarn shop, last week, when Tina told me about a new charity she found. Tina's always finding good causes that are knitting related. This one, called the 1 Square at a Time Project, collects 6" and 12" squares (knitted or crocheted) to join together into blankets for teen girls in Ukraine, who've 'graduated' from orphanages and onto the street. Tina was asked if she would collect squares for the project. Her reply? "Sure."
This looks to be an initiative from a small church organization -- I've tried to locate more info online, so I could point you to it, but I haven't been successful. Well. Lets make some 6- and 12- inch squares, and get them to Tina. Let's see if we can stuff the shop with afghan squares! Hey, there Trinity knitters, remember the helmet liner project? This would be a great quick knit project to work on for spring, don't you think?
I'm making a radical decision on this one. I'm going to crochet my squares.
Why, yes. I do have pattern books I've been collecting since 1977. Why do you ask?
